Tuna School Progess

It's busy in the real world right now which leaves little free time for painting. But it's Saturday and I can spare a couple of hours. To this point, the paintings I've been happiest with were the ones I finished quickest, yet for a bunch of reasons, I don't think this one will see a speedy conclusion. That's OK. I have found a certain rhythm with the work. I paint over some fish, trying to get consistent colour throughout groups, then I move onto background detail. All the while the background is painted under and over the subjects using thick paint in places and thin washes over everything. I'm down to a palette of five colours including black and white but I don't feel the work is over simplified because of it. For now, I'm happy to keep grinding away at it.

  1. Looking good dude. It's got a nice 'deep sea' vibe going on and the fish have a kind of shimmer happening. They look cranky too ; )
