Sum Random - Exhibition Preview

What's the etiquette on posting pictures of the show before the show? Anyway JB and the girls hung the work with a little help from me last night. I'm so use to seeing these things bunched up together it was a little weird seeing it all on that big wall. But this will all be old hat to me next time around. I'm looking forward to it!

Landscape Study - Collage

When discussing my sketches from the park with Sally the Tutor, I commented that light and dark patches of ground cut across the visual plane like layers in a cake. She immediately suggested I paint bits of paper different shades of green and make a collage. It was kind'o fun.

Painting 2 - Sketching from Nature

Back to school and this semester I'm taking 'Painting 2' with Sally Duhig. A couple of weeks ago I wrote some words  for a Sum Random press release expressing my fondness for cityscapes over lanscapes so of course I should have known landscape would be the focus of the class for the first six weeks.
Yesterday we assembled at Kalinga Park to sketch from nature. After a few quick warm-up sketches and a lot of wandering around, I settled on a pair of trees arching over a path at the beginning of a footbridge. Let's see what I can make of it!

Portrait - Bill Short - Beginning

Last night I started this painting of my friend and colleague Bill Short and I love the way it looks just at this moment. I'm trying not to psych myself out but I know my paintings can go ugly from this point and it will need a lot of time and effort before it comes good again.

Worlds Tallest Residential Tower

Well at least it was at the time of construction. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting back to school this semester. My painting could benefit from some guidance.
